Aly Dalrymple
Textiles & paint

Aly Dalrymple was born in 1986, in a small town in North Wales. She spent her childhood playing in rivers and exploring woodlands. Aly grew up in a creative family. Her mother was a dancer, her father a sculptor and her grandfather was an oil painter.
Aly’s artistic journey is fuelled by a connection to the natural world. She creates intricate hangings that delve into wildlife, environment, folklore and story. Through layers of stitch, paint and movement, her dreamlike worlds are designed to captivate. Each piece sends a message of change and growth, provoking questions and feelings.
Aly uses watercolour paint and free machine embroidery stitch on natural calico, a combination of media which developed organically. Drawing on inspiration from her childhood in the mountains in Snowdonia, she infuses her work with a deep appreciation for nature. Her curious soul has led her to explore her surroundings and transform these images from the real world into the sea and landscapes of her imagination.
